Job Summary
We're seeking a highly motivated and organized Middle School Assistant Cook to join our nutrition services team at New Ulm Middle School (Grades 5-8). As an Assistant Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals to our students, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, and providing exceptional customer service to our students and staff. Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook meals for students, following recipes and nutrition guidelines
- Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, adhering to health and safety standards
- Provide exceptional customer service to students and staff, responding to their needs and concerns
- Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient meal service
- Assist with inventory management, receiving, and storing food and supplies
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance culinary skills and knowledge
Requirements and Qualifications:
Essential Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Previous experience in food service, cooking, or a related field preferred
- Ability to work effectively with children and provide excellent customer service
- Basic math skills, including calculating quantities and managing inventory
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a school setting or with children
- Familiarity with nutrition guidelines and meal planning principles
- Culinary skills, such as food preparation and cooking techniques
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods
