Job Summary We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Special Education Teacher to provide high-quality instruction and support to students with special needs in a high school setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans, adapting curriculum materials, and providing specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of each student. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that align with state and federal regulations and meet the unique needs of each student. Create a flexible and supportive learning environment that promotes academic achievement, social growth, and emotional well-being for students with diverse needs. Adapt curriculum materials and instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities. Provide specialized instruction and support to students with special needs, including small group and one-on-one instruction. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and other educators to ensure a collaborative approach to education. Assess student progress and develop strategies for meeting individual education goals. Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of IEPs. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians through newsletters, notes, phone calls, and conferences. Essential Qualifications A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education. Evidence of content knowledge in the area of special education, such as a posted degree, minor, or passing Praxis Subject Assessments scores. Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and other educators. Strong organizational and time management skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with students with special needs, particularly in a high school setting. Experience with IEP development and implementation. Knowledge of assistive technology and other accommodations that support students with disabilities. Bilingual or multilingual skills. Skills and Competencies Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and other educators. Strong organizational and time management skills.
