The Canadian International Payroll Specialist will manage end to end payroll operations across multiple provinces while supporting the US based payroll team.  Participates in the resolution of payroll related issues. The payroll analyst needs to have a deep knowledge of Canadian payroll, legislation, have the ability to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing and makes recommended changes, if needed. Experience in Canadian payroll processing with a strong knowledge of Canadian rules and regulations is required. Position Responsibilities may include; • Administer full cycle payroll processing for hourly, salaried, and unionized employees across Canada • Assist with US payroll processing • Validate timekeeping, earnings, deductions, taxable benefits and adjustments • Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on schedule, (weekly for hourly and semi-monthly for salaried) • Reconcile payroll registers, general ledgers and year end balances • Execute payroll for multiple sites and provinces and pay frequencies • Research payroll inquiries from Shared Services, employees, HR, department managers, and other parties while maintaining top notch customer service • Calculate and input manual payroll adjustments and reconciliations as needed • Prepare and file year-end documents including T4’S, T4As, RL-1s and related summaries • Manage payroll systems, ADP & UKG and support system configuration optimization • Generate payroll reports for finance, human resources and leadership teams. • Supports internal and external audits by providing accurate documentation and explanations • Respond to employee inquiries with the required time frame regarding pay, deductions, benefits and tax forms • Ensure accurate and timely processing of Canadian & US new hires, transfers, temporary workers, promotions, and terminations • Analyze and able to identify opportunities to streamline payroll related processes and results and make recommendations and implement changes leading to best practice operations • Prepare and analyze reports for the general ledger, payroll, vacation accrual, hours worked, benefits and tax deductions, etc., for upper management when requested • Maintain knowledge of the payroll processing system, changes in compliance laws and company policies to ensure compliance with company's wages and policies, payroll principles, IRS and multi-state law withholding regulations, and Canadian rules and regulations • Audit Canadian & US data and system configurations including direct deposits, garnishments, Federal, State and Local tax set ups  • Perform extensive Canadian & US Payroll, and tax audits and reconciliations  • Assist management with ad-hoc requests, including special projects and initiatives • Maintain confidentiality of payroll information • Assist the payroll team with complex issues, questions and special needs as they arise • Participate in additional projects as needed to support ongoing business needs Nature & Scope: • Applies advanced knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience • Manages projects and processes while working independently and with limited supervision • Coaches and reviews the work of lower-level professionals  • Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex; takes a new perspective on existing solutions Knowledge & Skills: • Maintain expert-level knowledge of federal and provincial employment standards, tax regulations, and statutory requirements • Ensure compliance with CRA regulations, provincial health taxes, workers’ compensation boards (WSIB/WCB) and pension/benefits legislation. • Strong understanding of Canadian tax laws, employment standards and payroll • Experience with unionized payroll or collective agreements a plus • Knowledge of benefits administration and pension plans • Experience with large multi-entity organizations • Extensive Knowledge of full-cycle US payroll • Extensive federal, state and local tax knowledge for the United States and Canadian • Advance knowledge of Canadian payroll rules, regulations, and requirements • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office – Excel and Accounting/Payroll software programs; preferably UKG PRO (UltiPro – Ultimate Software) & ADP • Ability to analyze/interpret data and take appropriate action • Strong organizational, time management and prioritizing skills; work under tight deadlines with a high level of accuracy • Ability to foster sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals), as well as the ability to influence and sell ideas or services to others, effective collaboration skills • High degree of professionalism & respect for confidentiality; ability to apply strong work ethics and integrity on the job • Ability to adapt to changing environment and support of multiple groups • Position will often be in a busy office environment; the ability to multitask and focus in this environment is essential Experience: • 10+ years of Canadian payroll experience with high volume, large multi-national company  • Experience working with UKG PRO/UltiPro preferred • Experience with ADP preferred • Bi-lingual, English & French Education/Certification: • Bachelor’s degree required (those without degrees but equivalent experience are encouraged to apply) • Canadian Payroll Certification from the National Payroll Institute (formerly CPA) strongly preferred People Management: No Physical Requirements / Work Environment: • Must be able to perform essential responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations.
