About Pillar FX
Pillar FX LLC is a boutique visual effects studio based in Burbank, California, specializing in matchmove, rotoscoping, and compositing in visual effects for feature films and episodic television. We work with major entertainment studios to deliver high quality VFX on tight deadlines. Our cloud first infrastructure enables seamless remote collaboration with artists worldwide.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Matchmove Artist to join our team on a project-based basis. You will be responsible for delivering super accurate camera solves, object tracks, and tight rotomations for feature film and episodic content. Precision is everything in this role. We expect production ready matchmove data that holds up under the closest scrutiny. This is a fully remote position with flexible scheduling, ideal for experienced artists who take pride in delivering pixel-perfect work on deadline.
Responsibilities
• Perform highly accurate camera solves on a variety of shot types including handheld, aerial, stabilized, and multi camera setups. Every solve must be rock solid with no drift or sliding.
• Execute precise object tracking for CG element integration, ensuring tracked geometry locks perfectly to plate throughout the full shot range.
• Deliver tight rotomations for characters and objects, providing clean animated geometry that accurately follows on screen motion for use in CG replacement and augmentation workflows.
• Troubleshoot and refine difficult solves involving lens distortion, rolling shutter, motion blur, and limited tracking data. Problem shots are expected and you should be confident tackling them.
• Deliver accurate 3D camera data, point clouds, and scene geometry that holds up in final composites without additional adjustment.
• Create and maintain clean, organized Maya scenes following studio naming conventions and pipeline standards.
• Communicate shot status, flag potential issues early, and meet delivery milestones on schedule.
• Provide survey data reconstruction and set measurements when reference material is available.
Requirements
• 5+ years of professional matchmove experience in feature film or high end episodic television with a proven track record of delivering accurate, production ready solves.
• Expert level proficiency in SynthEyes for camera solving, object tracking, and deform mesh tracking workflows.
• Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Maya for scene assembly, camera refinement, rotomation, and data export.
• Demonstrated ability to produce tight rotomations, accurately animating geometry to match on screen character and object motion.
• Deep understanding of camera properties including focal length, lens distortion, film back, sensor characteristics, and how they affect solve accuracy.
• Experience working with lidar scans, HDRIs, and on-set survey data to build accurate 3D environments for matchmove.
• Ability to work independently, manage shot assignments, and deliver under tight production timelines.
• Reliable high speed internet connection suitable for remote VFX production.
Nice to Have
• Familiarity with Nuke for camera projection verification and quality control.
