Job Overview
As an Online Crisis Counselor at arenaflex, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support and crisis intervention to individuals utilizing our 988 Crisis Chat and Text services. Primary Responsibilities
- Provide crisis intervention to individuals in emotional distress through Crisis Chat and Text, utilizing active listening skills and suicide prevention practices to ensure the best possible outcomes.
- Conduct thorough assessments of each chat/text visitor to determine the most appropriate means of intervention, and develop effective safety plans and follow-up strategies as needed.
- Establish and maintain good rapport with a diverse range of chat/text visitors, providing emotional support and counseling to those in need.
- Intervene with suicidal chat/text visitors, making assessments and taking appropriate action, including tracing IP addresses and coordinating with emergency responders when necessary.
- Provide information and referrals to visitors as appropriate, utilizing knowledge of local and statewide community resources to ensure seamless support.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all crisis chat/text interactions, adhering to quality evaluation standards and completing a minimum of 1.5 chats/texts per hour.
- Participate in weekly quality evaluation processes, supervision, and training sessions to ensure ongoing growth and development.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Report on-site on an as-needed basis, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in response to changing program needs.
- Assist in training new Crisis Chat staff, sharing expertise and best practices to ensure a cohesive and effective team.
- Meet with Crisis Chat Supervisors and Program Managers to discuss program operations, concerns, and potential improvements, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
Education and Experience
To be considered for this role, you will need to possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 120 college credits. A Master's Degree in counseling, Social Work, or a related mental health field is preferred, with a minimum of 30 graduate school credits. You will also need to have at least 1 year of experience in mental health services, preferably in crisis intervention services, suicide prevention, and intervention. Computer skills with various software, including Microsoft Products, are essential, and proficiency in oral and written communication is critical.
