About the position Responsibilities • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to guide the organization's growth and impact. • Actively engage in financial oversight and fundraising initiatives to ensure the organization's financial health. • Participate in board meetings, discussions, and decision-making to shape organizational policies and strategies. • Serve on committees, leveraging your skills to contribute to specific areas of the organization. • Support fundraising efforts, including giving and/or raising a meaningful financial contribution, leveraging personal connections, and participating in fundraising events and campaigns. • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for VI and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for us to advance our mission. • Identify potential risks and collaborate with the board to develop strategies for risk mitigation. • Work collaboratively with other board members and executive team to assess our performance, measure impact, and enhance our effectiveness in achieving our mission. • Ensure that the Village Institute adheres to all relevant nonprofit laws and regulations, including reporting requirements. • Engage with staff, volunteers, donors, and community members to gain insights that inform decision-making. Requirements • Passion for The Village Institute's mission and values, especially relating to refugee and immigrant communities. • Relevant expertise or experience in fields such as nonprofit management, fundraising and philanthropy, nonprofit and/or immigration law, etc. • Proven ability to collaborate with a diverse team and embrace various perspectives. • Availability to attend meetings and participate in board-related activities regularly.
