Service Technician – Gymnasium Equipment

Description The Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, repairing, installing, and maintaining gymnasium and athletic equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and high-quality operation. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety and customer service. Technicians work independently and as part of a team at schools, recreation centers, universities, and other athletic facilities. Key Responsibilities - Diagnose, repair, and maintain gymnasium and athletic equipment, including but not limited to basketball goals, volleyball systems, divider curtains, wall pads, bleachers, scoreboards, and related mechanical and electrical systems - Perform preventative maintenance inspections to ensure equipment safety and compliance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards - Install new gymnasium equipment and retrofit or upgrade existing systems - Identify worn, damaged, or unsafe components and recommend repairs or replacements - Accurately document service work, parts used, and time spent on each job - Communicate clearly with customers regarding equipment condition, repair needs, and service recommendations - Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, fall protection, and proper use of tools and lifts - Maintain service vehicle, tools, and inventory in a clean and organized manner - Collaborate with supervisors and team members to schedule work and meet project deadlines. Requirements Required Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent - Mechanical aptitude with experience using hand and power tools - Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and instructions - Basic electrical knowledge (low-voltage systems preferred) - Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record - Ability to work at heights and lift up to 75 lbs - Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail - Professional demeanor and strong customer service skills Preferred Qualifications - Previous experience servicing gymnasium, athletic, or commercial facility equipment - Welding, fabrication, or carpentry experience - Experience working in schools, athletic facilities, or construction environments - OSHA 10/30 certification or equivalent safety training Work Environment & Physical Demands - Work is performed indoors and occasionally outdoors at customer facilities - Frequent climbing, lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods - Use of ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and other access equipment - Travel to job sites; overnight travel may be required occasionally - Compensation & Benefits - Competitive hourly wage or salary based on experience - Overtime opportunities - Company vehicle and tools provided (if applicable)
