About the Role
The Original Content Legal team is the backbone of Apple's original content efforts, handling the full spectrum of legal work related to acquisition, production, marketing, and distribution of television shows and films. As a Senior Marketing and Distribution Counsel, you will work closely with various stakeholders within Apple, including distribution, marketing, legal, business affairs, finance, production, publicity, retail, and creative teams. Your expertise will be crucial in navigating the complex legal landscape of entertainment distribution, ensuring that Apple's original content reaches global audiences while minimizing legal risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to oversee all legal aspects of entertainment distribution, including marketing, advertising, and promotional activities.
- Provide expert advice on content distribution, marketing, and consumer protection laws, as well as intellectual property legal issues, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Develop and implement legal solutions to address emerging issues and shifting territorial regulations, working closely with distribution and marketing teams.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with external partners, vendors, and suppliers, ensuring that agreements align with Apple's business objectives and legal requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and provide strategic guidance to mitigate potential legal risks associated with original content distribution and marketing.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in entertainment law, applying this knowledge to inform business decisions.
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in entertainment law, with a focus on content distribution, marketing, and intellectual property.
- A Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree and admission to at least one US state bar.
- Proven ability to issue spot and advise on legal implications, while understanding and furthering business objectives.
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
Preferred Qualifications
While not mandatory, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge:
- Experience working with distribution and marketing teams, developing legal solutions to new and shifting territorial regulations and non-music collection societies.
- A background in entertainment marketing, distribution, acquisition, licensing, and contract drafting and negotiation at a law firm, television network, streaming service, or major/mini-major film studio.
- Demonstrated adaptability in advising a variety of client teams driven by diverse business objectives.
- Comfort handling multiple projects on competing timelines, with a proven track record of meeting deadlines and delivering results.
