Job Summary: The Director of Human Resources serves as the primary strategic lead for employee behavioral investigations and the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across our national footprint. Reporting directly to the Vice President of People Operations, this role coordinates with the Legal department to ensure investigations are completed thoroughly and impartially. Additionally, the incumbent will interface with Labor Relations to ensure that our labor practices remain compliant, ethical, and efficient across union and non-union environments. The incumbent will bridge the gap between complex employment law and daily operations, operating in a diverse workforce environment ranging from corporate salaried professionals to high-volume, variable-hour event personnel. This position is available for remote work or at our Scottsdale, AZ office. General Duties/Responsibilities: • Serve as the lead investigator for high-level behavioral complaints ensuring a full and thorough investigatory process. • Guide HR staff and management through the progressive discipline process, ensuring consistency across all markets. • Proficiency in drafting formal investigative reports, legal correspondence, and corporate policies that are clear and enforceable. • Oversee and monitor professional development and performance improvement plans for corporate employees. • Monitor and guide the HR staff’s application of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) to ensure consistency. Provide training and coaching for management personnel to effectively recognize self-reports. • Monitor federal, state, and local employment laws (e.g., FLSA, EEOC, NLRA) to proactively identify required changes to company policy. • Draft and implement comprehensive operating procedures that translate legal requirements into actionable processes, ensuring that operational changes are compliant with Collective Bargaining Agreements. • Develop specialized policies tailored to the company’s variable-hour workforce. • Design and deliver high-impact training for management and supervisors on labor law, behavioral standards, and effective documentation. • Partner with the VP of Human Resources and General Counsel to advise the C-Suite on risk mitigation strategies related to workforce behavior and compliance. • Oversee and mentor HR staff to ensure a unified approach to employee relations. • Provide high-level coaching for sensitive workplace disputes. • Ability to communicate effectively with everyone from front-line employees to C-Suite. • Ability to maintain a calm, objective presence in high-pressure environments. • Absolute commitment to handling confidential data and sensitive behavioral issues with the highest degree of integrity. • Other duties as assigned. Requirements: • BA/BS in Human Resources, or a related field. JD (Juris Doctor) or Master’s degree preferred. • 7–10 years of progressive HR leadership, with a heavy focus on Employee Relations and Labor Law. • Proven experience navigating Union environments and Collective Bargaining Agreements is required. • Demonstrated success managing HR operations across multiple states with varying legal landscapes (e.g., CA, NY, IL). • Advanced skill in HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel for data tracking/analysis). • Ability to travel up to 10% for on-site investigations or market audits. This position is not eligible for stocks and/or stock options. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
