The Office of the Vice Provost for Research & Scholarship (OVPRS), Research Security Office, has an exciting job opportunity for a Research Security Analyst reporting to the Director, Compliance & Research Security/Research Security Officer. Salary Range: $60,000 to $70,000, based on experience CORE JOB SUMMARY The Research Security Analyst reports to the Research Security Officer in carrying out the research security policies and procedures throughout the University, assisting in training and rendering expert advice to faculty, staff, and University leadership in all research security-related matters. The Research Security Analyst is responsible for coordinating University-wide activities with key university stakeholders that contribute to the University’s research security program in the areas of research security, export control, foreign influence, and conflict of interest. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Supports the Research Security Officer in developing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with university and federal regulations. 2. Follows established procedures to assess, prioritize, integrate, and evaluate information from multiple sources to identify concerning behaviors and escalate high‑risk incidents. 3. Monitors research security risks and communicates and reports findings to the Research Security Officer. 4. Aids in developing education and communication tools for the research community and updates materials as needed. 5. Collaborates with Schools, Colleges, and Central Offices to promote compliance with federal research security regulations through outreach and training. 6. Works with Research Administration, Technology Transfer, Export Control, Disclosures & Scholarly Activities Management, Risk Management, Research Integrity, IT, HR, General Counsel, and University Compliance to provide timely research security guidance and verify compliance. 7. Assists with periodic risk assessments to identify research security risks and develops mitigation strategies to prevent future risks. 8. Investigates emerging research security threats and analyzes vulnerabilities in systems and networks. 9. Drafts and monitors risk‑mitigation and remediation plans to ensure compliance with federal regulatory requirements. 10. Supports the development, oversight, management, and record‑keeping functions of UM’s Research Security Program. 11. Evaluates information received from referrals, reports, publications, and cyber data to determine potential security concerns. 12. Escalates high‑risk incidents to appropriate stakeholders for further review and investigation. 13. Implements measures that strengthen research security controls and reduce exposure to identified risks. 14. Engages with campus partners to deliver research security training, outreach, and awareness initiatives. 15. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. CORE QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required Experience: Minimum three (3) years of experience in research, research administration, export compliance, and/or other relevant field (sponsored programs, foreign influence, etc.). Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered. Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: Strong organizational skills. Ability to interpret and communicate federal regulations. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. Experience in conducting risk assessments. Ability to problem-solve and handle sensitive/confidential information with discretion.
