I’m developing a premium desk mat that converts into a slim travel laptop sleeve/tech organizer. It should look and feel like a high-end modern tech accessory (Apple-clean aesthetic), work beautifully on a desk, and transform into a compact zipper case for travel.
I’m looking for an industrial designer / product engineer with soft goods + functional product experience (cases, sleeves, organizers, bags) who can take this from concept to prototype-ready design with a full tech pack.
Product Overview (High Level):
Two sizes: for 14” and 16” laptops (the sleeve should hold the laptop for travel)
Mode 1 (Desk): premium padded desk mat with integrated cable management features
Mode 2 (Travel): mat folds into a slim zippered sleeve with an interior organizer layout
Interior organizer: elastic loops/pockets for cables, charger brick, AirPods, slim power bank, and a mouse pocket zone
Modular attachments: designed to support optional accessories (ex: phone stand/dock) in a clean, minimalist way
Branding: subtle embossed logo, premium charcoal/gray materials, minimal look
What I need from you:
Design a clean, manufacturable fold-to-sleeve concept (not a bulky pouch)
Engineer the internal layout so it stays slim and functional
Produce a prototype-ready tech pack a sample maker/manufacturer can build from
Deliverables:
2–3 concept options (folding approach + organizer layout)
Final selected concept with detailed dimensions for both 14” and 16” sizes
Tech pack including:
Flat and folded dimensions
Suggested material stack (outer/liner/padding/stiffener)
Stitching notes + edge finishing approach
Zipper path + spec guidance
Internal pocket/loop layout with measurements
BOM / component list
Assembly notes / construction guidance
Prototype guidance: what to send to a sample maker + common pitfalls
Nice-to-have:
Experience designing laptop sleeves, travel organizers, soft goods tech accessories
Experience creating factory-ready tech packs for cut-and-sew products
Ability to recommend prototype shops/manufacturers (US or overseas)
