Cherokee Federal, a trusted partner to over 60 federal clients, is seeking an experienced Human Rights and Civil Society Research Analyst II to support the Department of State's Office of International Religious Freedom. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in advancing the mission of promoting global religious freedom and assisting Department of State officers in responding to developments related to this critical issue.

About the Role

This is a remote opportunity with immediate openings available. As a Human Rights and Civil Society Research Analyst II, you will work independently to provide support services, including monitoring unclassified and classified information sources, undertaking research, drafting documents, and analyzing events and dynamics related to religious freedom. Your expertise will inform policymakers and programs, and you will have the opportunity to brief senior officials and contribute to the development of strategic plans for outreach.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor abuses of religious freedom and positive developments related to the state of religious freedom in assigned geographic or thematic areas of responsibility.
• Review information from various sources, including media, nongovernment organizations, civil society, and classified reporting channels.
• Travel periodically to assigned countries/regions to support the Ambassador at Large, Senior Official, or other members of the Front Office, or for information gathering and country conditions monitoring.
• Undertake research using open-source and classified systems, and prepare reports and analyses on the actions of foreign government officials responsible for severe violations of religious freedom.
• Compile comprehensive progress reports and summaries, including the status of indicators and success stories for the Report to Congress on International Religious Freedom.
• Analyze religious freedom-related and civil society developments in assigned countries/regions and areas of thematic focus, and brief senior officials on the implications of such developments.
• Draft and edit written products related to human rights and religious freedom, and provide periodic oral briefings for senior Department officials.
• Respond to specific requests for information on religious freedom from the U.S. Department of State, USAID, and other government agencies or representatives of like-minded partners.
• Participate in workshop training exercises and briefings to disseminate information about the mandate and work of the office.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• 10 or more years of experience in policy research and analysis in international relations/affairs, including policy issues, principles, concepts, and methods related to rights advocacy.
• Knowledge of laws, rules, policies, and regulations regarding human rights and religious freedom.
• Familiarity with various religious traditions and dynamics.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English to prepare and present information persuasively.
• Strong analytical and research skills to provide recommendations and technical advice.
• Excellent organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments with tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in standard software, including the complete Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to learn and work with other software and database applications.

Preferred Qualifications

A Master's or other post-graduate degree is preferred. Additionally, experience in religious freedom advocacy, human rights research, policy analysis, and international relations is highly desirable.
