About the Role: Substitute Teacher
We're seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Substitute Teacher to join our team in Saddle River, NJ. As a Substitute Teacher with Scoot Education, you'll have the flexibility to choose your assignments and work on your own schedule. Our platform offers a range of opportunities, from day-to-day substitutes to long-term assignments, allowing you to tailor your experience to your needs and preferences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality instruction and support to students in the absence of their regular teacher
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans, ensuring continuity of education
- Manage classroom behavior and create a positive learning environment
- Communicate effectively with school staff, teachers, and administrators
- Participate in 1:1 check-ins with your designated Scoot consultant to discuss school feedback and develop your skills
- Be available for assignments on a flexible schedule, with the opportunity to choose from a variety of schools and grade levels
Essential Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree, or 60+ college credits
- NJ Substitute Credential
- Background check & TB risk assessment (we'll cover the cost of this)
- Full COVID-19 vaccination
- Three professional references, including one from a previous direct supervisor
- A passion for education and putting students first
- An empathetic nature, a growth mindset, and a drive to be the best you can be
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a substitute teacher or in a related educational role
- Special education experience or certification
- Subject-specific expertise (e.g., Math, Science, English, etc.)
- Experience working with diverse student populations and age groups (Kinder, Early Years, Elementary, Middle, High School)
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adapt to new situations and challenges
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Flexibility and willingness to learn
- Proficiency in technology, including educational software and platforms
