Job Overview
In this critical role, you will be responsible for examining existing types of malware, analyzing their capabilities, and attempting to predict new types of malware to foster proper security responses. You will administer the development of red teaming strategies and arrangements across the enterprise, build a mentoring program for the red team and its partners, and act as a senior advisor to the Threat Capacity Research and Validation Team. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving our cyber security efforts forward, and your contributions will have a direct impact on the protection of our assets and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer the improvement of red teaming strategies and arrangements inside and across the enterprise, to incorporate (but not limited to) the areas of business continuity, crisis management, supply chain security, data security, personnel security, operations security, and facilities security.
- Build a mentoring program for the red team and its partners to assist with developing the capabilities around threat emulation, malware and tool creation, and tradecraft.
- Act as a senior advisor to the Threat Capacity Research and Validation Team to provide topic expertise on hostile operations, operationalizing threat intelligence, tool development, and tradecraft.
- Work closely with blue and purple team partners to trigger incidents and work with them on detection effectiveness, building relationships among the varying groups.
- Construct and maintain a comprehensive model of relevant, actionable threats to the enterprise.
- Inform senior management regarding the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats associated with strategic red teaming.
- Provide regular threat/risk briefings to senior management regarding issues raised by the red team. Present findings within a context of overall risk to the enterprise. Adjust red team activities and planning based on senior management input.
- Work closely with existing infrastructure and security teams, both to receive feedback and to provide actionable and meaningful insights.
- Act as an adversarial counterpart to security strategy proposals.
- Work closely with the Threat Research Support team on the development of tools and procedures to address security issues at scale.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:
- 3+ years of cyber security research experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
- 3+ years of experience with training senior-level leaders and key stakeholders around red team activities.
- 3+ years of data security reporting and analysis experience.
- 3+ years of experience with one or a combination of the following: reporting, analysis, or modeling in a data security environment, information technology environment, or a combination of both.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following preferred qualifications will be considered an asset:
- 2 years of experience leading red team assessments of high-outcome systems.
- Understanding of the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
- Experience with Burp Suite, Crowdstrike, Splunk, Account, EDR solutions.
- Comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles related to security, strategy, management, and intelligence analysis.
- Ability to work productively with different stakeholders (and their related, sometimes conflicting) interests within the enterprise.
- Ability to work with and against internal resistance, and, as needed, build consensus for red teaming within the enterprise.
- Ability to think and act both tactically and strategically, theoretically, and objectively.
- OSCP certification or other similar related security certifications.
- GCP and Azure certifications.
