About the Role
As a Pet Grooming and Training Assistant at Petco, you'll play a vital role in delivering exceptional dog training experiences that drive sales, customer satisfaction, and loyalty. You'll work closely with pet parents, Pet Care Center partners, and our team to create a safe, enjoyable, and rewarding environment for dogs to learn and grow. Your expertise in positive reinforcement dog training will be instrumental in helping us achieve our goals and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our customers and their furry friends.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Exceptional Dog Training Experiences: Implement the Petco Positive Dog Training curriculum, ensuring a safe, humane, and enjoyable experience for dogs and their parents.
- Drive Sales and Customer Engagement: Achieve budgeted Dog Training sales goals, engage with customers, and promote our training programs to drive business growth.
- Collaborate with Pet Care Center Partners: Work cross-functionally with partners to develop and implement strategies that build community partnerships and expand our dog training business.
- Coach and Motivate Dog Owners: Use effective listening skills to coach dog owners, motivating them to achieve successful training results and fostering a positive, collaborative environment.
- Maintain Accurate Records and Equipment: Ensure accurate records of canine training schedules and maintain the Dog Training area in accordance with policies and guidelines.
- Provide Excellent Customer Service: Assess customer needs, propose dog training items based on comprehensive experience, and deliver cordial service that exceeds expectations.
- Uphold Safety and Security Protocols: Foster a culture of safety and security, adhering to established protocols and encouraging others to do the same.
Essential Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent: A high school diploma or its equivalent, such as a GED, is preferred.
- Petco's Positive Dog Training Instructor Program: Timely completion of this program is required for all new hires.
- Effective Communication Skills: Ability to capture the attention of listeners, ensuring messages are delivered clearly and meaningfully.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in operating technological equipment, troubleshooting problems, and conducting online research activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPDT-KA or KPA-CTP Certification: Certification from the Karen Pryor Academy is highly recommended.
- Prior Experience in Positive Reinforcement Dog Training: Experience in teaching positive reinforcement methods for dog training in a group or class setup is ideal.

Work Environment
