Key Responsibilities
As an Elementary ESL Teacher, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Testing entering students for ELL services utilizing the MODEL and WAPT screeners
- Planning and delivering English language development instruction for ELL students
- Working collaboratively with general education teachers to assess the progress of students on a regular basis
- Conferencing with parents and teachers concerning individual students
- Consulting with classroom teachers regarding curriculum differentiation necessary to meet the needs of the English language learner
- Maintaining records for direct served and monitored students
- Maintaining and improving professional competencies by attending professional development opportunities
- Attending staff meetings at building and district level
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Current Illinois Elementary Professional Educator License (PEL) with ESL Endorsement/Approval
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to demonstrate competency in organization, flexibility, and cooperativeness
- Related experience with ELL students in a pull-out program
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- ACCESS and MODEL certification
- Experience with curriculum development and implementation
- Knowledge of WIDA standards and assessments
- Familiarity with technology integration in the classroom
