Job Summary
The Data Engineer will play a critical role in the Information and Investigation, Applications Designing group, driving the company's strategic direction and ensuring a cross-functional alignment of objectives and execution. As a key member of the team, you will collaborate with stakeholders to provide critical analysis tasks, supporting our fast-paced environment and working on essential subsystems of an exciting product. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, excellent communication skills, and experience building, optimizing, and managing ETL pipelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the implementation and support of internal Information and Investigation and reporting processes
- Analyze and stay up-to-date with rapidly evolving data requirements, ensuring strategic framework and process changes are implemented to meet these needs
- Identify potential process improvements and recommend implementation strategies
- Develop and demonstrate expertise in communicating data-related topics, including reporting
- Investigate the need for new applications or upgrades to existing applications to meet business needs and make informed decisions
- Recommend solutions that adhere to industry standards, considering the impact on upstream and downstream systems and stakeholders
- Closely monitor projects from inception to completion and assist with Client Acceptance Testing
- Work on special projects related to data as assigned
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- 2+ years of relevant experience as a Data Engineer or similar experience
- Experience with data warehousing and data modeling
- Solid experience with relational databases like SQL Server, MySQL, and Vertica
- NoSQL database experience is a plus
- Experience with client-defined workflows (e.g., Airflow)
- Experience with writing Kafka consumers and producers
- Experience with Apache Spark Streaming and Hive is a plus
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to approach problems in new ways
- Working knowledge of data management software like Airflow or other ETL tools
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience with bug/upgrade tracking systems like JIRA
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to plan an effective solution
- Ability to assist with multiple ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to explain complex/technical concepts and analysis recommendations clearly to a wide audience
- Strong business judgment, with the ability to flex between high-level thinking, understand and distill complex ideas, and analyze data to drive key objectives
