Job Overview
In this exciting and challenging role, you will have the opportunity to work with students from kindergarten to 8th grade, developing their musical skills and appreciation for diverse types of music literature. As a specialist teacher, you will be responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering music lessons that cater to the needs of students with varying learning styles and abilities. Key Responsibilities
- Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters and demonstrate effective planning skills by preparing music lesson plans designed to implement diocesan curriculum standards
- Use appropriate materials and resources for students to engage in learning, including a repertoire of diverse types of music literature, traditional and contemporary
- Evaluate each student's musical growth and contribution to the performance, individually or in a group, using a variety of formative and summative assessments
- Differentiate music curriculum to respond to individual learning needs and plan a balanced music program, organizing daily class time to accomplish preparation, rehearsal, and instruction within the allotted time
- Develop music programs for Christmas (K-4) and Spring (5th-8th) programs and conduct student performances
- Maintain current and accurate records, practice positive and consistent discipline in the management of the classroom, and establish an orderly and productive environment during classes, rehearsals, and music performances
- Communicate clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students, and conference with parents upon request, responding to messages in a timely manner
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or Music Education (minimum), with a Master's degree preferred
- Teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement
- At least 3 years of teaching experience, with experience in Catholic education highly desirable
- Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church and knowledge of subjects taught, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation
- Ability to manage student behavior in a classroom setting, motivate and engage students in the learning process, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Experience in planning and leading music programs, including Christmas and Spring programs
- Ability to use appropriate technology, including computer, smart board, projector, and handheld devices
- Experience in coordinating with other staff members for special events that include music
- Ability to serve on committees and perform other duties as assigned
