We’re creating a high-end coffee table book centered on a multi-generation family jewelry business. The core materials already exist: photographs, written stories, family history, and archival content. This is not a research role and not a ghostwriting role.
We’re looking for an experienced consultant to help guide, structure, and manage the project at a high level so it becomes a polished, cohesive, print-ready book.
The Role
This is a light-touch, senior advisory role. You’ll act as a guide, editor-at-large, and project sounding board. The bulk of the writing and content creation will be done by us; your job is to help ensure the work is aligned, well-structured, and moving toward a professional final product.
Expect roughly monthly check-ins, with occasional async feedback in between.
What You’ll Do
Help shape the overall structure and narrative flow of a coffee table book
Provide guidance on organizing existing photos, text, and family stories into a cohesive layout
Advise on tone, pacing, and storytelling so the book feels elegant, meaningful, and readable
Review drafts and layouts and give clear, actionable feedback
Help define milestones and keep the project on track
Advise on formatting, layout standards, and best practices for photo-heavy books
Provide recommendations on printing options, paper quality, trim sizes, and production considerations
Serve as a steady outside perspective to keep the project aligned and progressing
What You Will Not Be Doing
Conducting genealogy or historical research (content is already gathered)
Writing the book for us
Managing day-to-day tasks or heavy production work
Who This Is For
You’re likely a great fit if you:
Have experience with coffee table books, family histories, or heritage projects
Understand genealogy and multi-generation storytelling, even if you’re not actively researching here
Have worked on print books, especially visually driven ones
Are comfortable advising on layout, sequencing, and production decisions
Can give thoughtful, honest feedback without micromanaging
Enjoy helping someone else execute their vision rather than owning the execution yourself
Ideal Backgrounds
Book editor or publishing consultant
Coffee table book designer/editor
Genealogy professional with publishing experience
Creative director with print and book experience
Engagement Details
Freelance / consulting role
Approximately once-monthly check-ins (with flexibility as needed)
