The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the national not-for-profit association established in 1863 & representing over 110,000 veterinarians working in private & corporate practice, government, industry, academia, & uniformed services, is seeking an Assistant Director & Disaster Response Coordinator to join our Division of Animal & Public Health. Structured to work for its members, AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership & for the profession. Our mission is to lead the profession by advocating for our members & advancing the science & practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal & human health.
Reporting to the Director of the Division of Animal & Public Health, the Assistant Director helps support the development & implementation of policies & programs aligned with the Association’s objectives for animal & public health, with a specific emphasis on the delivery of veterinary medical services, environmental health, & wildlife/conservation medicine. They will facilitate & provide scientific staff support for assigned governance entities that develop & recommend related policy & programs for the AVMA.
The Assistant Director also serves as the AVMA’s Disaster Response Coordinator, providing support for the AVMA Veterinary First Responder Certificate Program, delivering situational reports for senior AVMA volunteer & staff leadership, providing input into the American Veterinary Medical Foundation’s disaster relief efforts, & communicating with state veterinary medical associations, species- & practice-type specific veterinary organizations, & other stakeholders during declared disasters. Scope of work also may include helping with issues related to animal health products, regulatory veterinary medicine, public health, & food safety. This position may work remotely. Less than 20% travel.

A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $95,000 - $135,000. Compensation decisions take into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, business needs, & organizational policies.
