The N.C. Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) serves as the Technology Center for the State of NC. They are seeking a Junior Systems Engineer to support critical transportation systems used across North Carolina, providing hands-on experience with enterprise applications and real-world system operations.
Responsibilities
- Help configure and prepare application environments for deployments and routine updates
- Assist with troubleshooting by reviewing logs, gathering details, and escalating issues to technical teams
- Support release and patch processes by running checklists, performing basic tests, and confirming successful deployments
- Contribute to automation efforts through scripting and repeatable operational tasks
- Monitor system health, track key metrics, and report potential issues
- Maintain system change documentation, diagrams, and wiki articles to support team operations
- Participate in meetings, support compliance documentation, and help coordinate change requests
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution
- OR Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in business application consulting or development
- OR High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in business application consulting or development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of software development lifecycles (SDLC)
- Knowledge of Agile & SCRUM processes
- Knowledge of enterprise systems
