OVERVIEW The Docket Specialist files and retrieves legal documents in various courts; notifies attorneys of court calls; serves legal documents; manages electronic court records and documents for attorneys in the Chicago office. The Docket Specialist is a non-exempt position and reports to the Director of Docketing Services. This position is scheduled to work 6:00pm - 2:30am CT. Monday through Friday. Additional hours as needed. While in training, new hire will be scheduled to work standard business hours (8:45am - 5:15pm CT). Once training has been completed, new hire will transition to their evening schedule on a remote basis. Applicants should reside in the Chicago metropolitan area. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities: • Ensure that legal documents are successfully filed with appropriate courts, agencies and officials, either in paper or electronically. • Set motion dates, return dates and times in State Courts. • Maintain and distribute information relating to court calls and significant dates for firm business (court dates, filing deadlines, etc.) through contact with clerks’ offices, firm personnel, electronic communications and elsewhere. • Arrange for service of process (summons and subpoena). • Create and maintain effective working relationships with lawyers, staff, vendors and court personnel. • Obtain and distribute on request paper or electronic copies of forms for Federal and State Courts. • Review state, federal, and local rules to confirm that pleadings comply with guidelines. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Undergraduate degree preferred or equivalent work experience. • Proficient in basic computer applications including Windows XP and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint). • Law Bulletin Information Network, electronic research, and data entry experience preferred. • At least one year of law firm experience preferred. KEY QUALITIES/SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES: • Must be well organized, detail oriented and follow direction closely. • Possess good judgment, decision making skills and strong communications skills to communicate effectively with all levels of the Firm. • Must be results oriented, dependable, and able to adhere to established time commitments. • Have strong customer service attributes and the ability to deliver results. • Must be able to follow direction, multi-task and possess sound business judgment. • The ability to work independently and seek clarification when needed. Pay range and compensation package Jenner & Block is proud to offer a competitive total rewards package, including comprehensive health & well-being benefits and 401k profit sharing. The anticipated pay range for this role is $60,000 to $80,000 in Chicago. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on several factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity.
