Director of Clinical Informatics

InnoVet Health, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, is looking for a Director of Clinical Informatics. The Director of Clinical Informatics provides strategic and operational leadership for the development, implementation, and optimization of clinical information systems. This role bridges clinical practice, health informatics, and information technology to improve patient care, clinical workflows, and data-driven decision-making across complex healthcare environments. The position requires advanced clinical expertise, board certification in Clinical Informatics, and demonstrated leadership in clinical informatics initiatives within government or private healthcare systems. Key Responsibilities • Lead the development, management, and optimization of clinical information systems, including clinical decision support tools and workflow process improvements. • Serve as a senior clinical informatics leader, providing strategic direction and oversight for clinical informatics programs and initiatives. • Act as a primary liaison between clinical stakeholders, technical teams, leadership, and external partners to ensure alignment of clinical needs with informatics solutions. • Provide expert stakeholder management, including requirements gathering, information modeling, and process documentation to support clinical informatics software development and project activities. • Independently conduct client-facing requirements capture sessions and translate clinical needs into actionable technical and functional specifications. • Analyze clinical workflows and organizational processes to identify opportunities for optimization, standardization, and improved data utilization. • Ensure clinical informatics initiatives align with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards and best practices. • May manage and mentor clinical informatics staff or multidisciplinary project teams, as appropriate. • Operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving healthcare environment requiring strong communication, leadership, and change management skills. Required Qualifications • Master’s degree (MA/MS) at minimum with 10 years of experience in clinical informatics leadership roles. • MD or DO degree, with active licensure and board certification in Clinical Informatics. • Demonstrated experience as a Clinical Informatics Director and/or Clinical Informatics Lead within a healthcare system (government or private industry). • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience, with at least 6 years specialized in Health Informatics. • Six additional years of specialized clinical informatics experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree. • Proven expertise spanning: • Clinical practice and specialized clinical skills • Organizational and program management • Health information technology and informatics • Stakeholder engagement and executive communication Core Competencies • Clinical Informatics Leadership • Clinical Decision Support Systems • Health Information Systems Development and Management • Stakeholder Engagement and Requirements Management • Information Modeling and Process Documentation • Clinical Workflow Analysis and Optimization • Client-Facing Consultation and Advisory Services • Independent Work and Cross-Functional Collaboration Preferred Experience • Experience supporting large, complex healthcare organizations, including government healthcare systems. • Experience working on a VA contract is preferred. • Background working with multidisciplinary teams in regulated healthcare environments.
