Join American Express as a Commercial Rating & Underwriting Summer Intern to assess credit risk and support underwriting decisions in a hybrid work environment. Your Role Here’s what you will be doing: • Rate and underwrite credit exposures within assigned region, industry, and business line • Conduct fundamental analysis of business operations, financial performance, industry, and country risk • Utilize outputs from internal and external rating models to support credit decisions • Assess credit extension needs by evaluating relationship profitability and program structures • Collaborate within the Commercial Rating and Underwriting team in the Credit and Fraud Risk division About You The company is looking for: • Currently enrolled full-time undergraduate student with expected graduation between December 2026 and June 2027 • Preferred coursework or degree in finance, accounting, economics, or statistics • Understanding of fundamental financial analysis and ability to review corporate financial documents • Comfortable with GAAP/IFRS accounting standards, corporate valuation, and forecasting • Familiarity with public agency ratings and supporting analysis • Knowledge of macroeconomic trends and ability to recommend improvements for probability of default estimation • Experience preparing company-specific and industry-wide credit memorandums • Familiarity with global markets; foreign language skills a plus • Confident and persuasive written and verbal communication skills • Employment eligibility to work in the United States without visa sponsorship Compensation & Benefits • Hourly salary range: $24.05 to $63.00 plus sign-on bonus • Competitive base salaries • Flexible work arrangements including hybrid and virtual options with Amex Flex • Free access to global on-site wellness centers staffed with nurses and doctors (location dependent) • Free and confidential counseling support through the Healthy Minds program • Comprehensive benefits supporting physical, financial, and mental health Training & Development • Opportunities to learn new skills, develop as a leader, and grow your career • Career development and training programs available Career Progression Experience working within a global team and exposure to credit risk management supporting potential career growth in financial services and risk management roles.
